OnePlus has finally announced the latest version of its custom Android skin, the OxygenOS 15. The company is promising to offer fast performance, advanced AI features and a minimalistic design. While the company is yet to confirm the eligibility list for OxygenOS 15, it has revealed the OnePlus 12 will be the first phone to receive the latest software update. Here is everything to know.

OxygenOS 15 announced: List of features

OxygenOS 15 will come with some major improvements, which are expected to make OnePlus phones smoother and more efficient. OnePlus has majorly improved animations with the latest OxygenOS update and while we are yet to test it in real, the videos shown by OnePlus look promising and quite exciting. Some AI features are also there like AI unblur, AI detail boost and more, which are super cool and interesting. Keep reading to know more about the features.

So, the first feature is Parallel Processing, which means that you will be able to open and close up to 20 apps continuously at a faster rate than seen on iOS. The transition is smoother without any jitters or delay, as shown in the official video.

Memory

OxygenOS 15 is also set to offer more storage space to OnePlus phone users. How? The company explains that this operating system will use 20 per cent less storage space compared to the OxygenOS 14, which is pretty cool and will likely please a lot of users. However, this feature will arrive on the next-gen OnePlus flagship phones.

AI features

-There is a new AI Detail Boost feature, which OnePlus claims can transform low-resolution or cropped images into 4K visuals. This feature can also automatically identify pixelated images and offer users clarity with just one click, according to OnePlus.

-OxygenOS 15 also introduces the AI Unblur feature, which is quite self-explanatory. OnePlus claims this effectively fixes blurry images without the need for additional apps.

-Another feature is the AI Reflection Eraser. The company says this option can remove both strong and subtle reflections with a single tap.

-An Intelligent Search feature has also been added that improves on-device search. Users will be able to search by initiating human-like conversations. Whether you are looking for a specific answer in file, setting, or note on your smartphone, Intelligent Search interprets your query to return the relevant results.

-Circle to Search feature is also present in OxygenOS 15, which we have previously seen on Android 14 devices. It helps you quickly identify items in a photo or video. With a simple long press on the navigation bar or Home Button, the feature will enable you to quickly search for images on the screen by drawing a circle or highlighting. The results are found on the internet by Google.

-Pass Scan enables users to quickly scan paper or digital boarding passes. This feature works from both the camera and photo album.

-You will also find the AI Notes feature in OxygenOS 15. It offers features like formatting, expanding or reducing content, adjusting formality, ensuring that your notes are polished and well-structured. Additionally, AI notes are also voice-powered, allowing you to simply speak your thoughts. The company says that AI Notes can transcribe your words and even remove unnecessary fillers.

-AI Reply has also been incorporated within the AI Toolbox, which is accessible from the smart sidebar. This feature understands the conversations you have with your friends and generates contextually relevant replies. When you're using chat apps, AI Reply will automatically activated within your AI Toolbox.

Gemini integration for real-time responses

In the upcoming OnePlus flagship devices, the Google Gemini app will be integrated as the default AI assistant. So, one will be able to clear their queries in a better and faster way using Gemini Live, according to the company. You can brainstorm ideas, simplify complex topics, and rehearse for important moments with real-time responses. Gemini Live will soon be available in more than 40 languages. You can talk to Gemini using your voice. This update is seemingly similar to what Apple has done with Siri (with Apple Intelligence).

Fresh design, more system features

Some design updates are also there, including a brand-new boot animation, new icons, more shelf card choices, and additional fingerprint unlock style options, which have been introduced in the OxygenOS 15.

In terms of system interaction, you will see a new OnePlus OneTake feature. You will be able to cut elements or objects from any photo and use them as your lock screen wallpaper.

There is also a new "Share with iPhone" feature to simplify file sharing between OnePlus and iPhone devices. It allows users to transfer documents, images, and video files across different platforms with just a tap.

OnePlus has also implemented Shimmering Effects and Gaussian Blur across various system scenarios. Additionally, elements such as settings, notification bars, and control centres have been streamlined.

Security

You will also see a new theft protection feature, which is to help protect your device and data before, during, and after theft. When movements typical of theft, such as someone suddenly taking your device and trying to run away, are detected, the device automatically locks.

Additional protections include a remote lock feature, which allows users to lock their phone using only their phone number without needing to log in to a Google account. and an offline lock to protect you if a thief tries to take your device offline to extract data is activated if the phone remains offline for a prolonged period of time. Moreover, sensitive actions like disabling theft protection functions or FindMyDevice require biometric verification, adding an extra layer of defence.

OxygenOS 15 release date revealed

As usual, OnePlus will first release beta versions and gradually roll out the stable versions for public. OnePlus has confirmed that the first open beta version of OxygenOS 15 will be released on October 30 and it will first come to OnePlus 12, which is the current flagship phone of the company.

While the new AI features look and sound pretty cool, they won't be available immediately. The company has announced that the AI features will be rolled out to OnePlus products by the end of November. It has also revealed that select AI features will be made available exclusively on designated models. We will have more details on this in the coming days or weeks.

OxygenOS 15: List of Eligible OnePlus phones

For now, the brand has just confirmed one smartphone that will be getting OxygenOS 15 and that is the OnePlus 12. The company has confirmed that it will reveal more information on its community page in the coming days.

But, we expect OnePlus to roll out the OxygenOS 15 to at least 2024 phones such as OnePlus Nord 4, OnePlus 12R, OnePlus Nord CE 4, and OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite. Since the OnePlus Open is also a premium device, it is also expected to receive the update. What about the older OnePlus phones? Well, this list is not officially confirmed and OnePlus will likely release OxygenOS 15 update to more smartphones (new and older ones).
